Electronics have revolutionized our lifestyle. Telephones, radios, TVs, computers and cell phones are items we use daily. These items make up the bulk of electronics that threaten the environment, because of their hazardous ingredients. Computing systems are comprised of more than 1,000 materials, many of which are highly toxic to our air, land and water systems.

These components include chlorinated and
brominated substances, toxic gases, toxic metals, photo-active and biologically active materials, acids, plastics and plastic additives.
This section of waste is referred to as ELECTRONIC WASTE, or
E-Waste
.

REQUEST A PICKUP! - $20 Pickup Fee within Crossville City Limits! - Additional fee required for pickup outside of city limits! SEE RATES ABOVE. If you are within Crossville city limits and you have between 1-4 pallets of electronics, then we'll come pick it up for a one time fee of $20. There is a mandatory $50 dock loading fee if we manually have to load the heavy equipment, or spend an excessive amount of labor to accomplish the loading process. If you need us to pick-up the equipment from inside your building, add $35 to total fee. Contact us to schedule a pick-up.

NOTE: We only offer recycling of computer equipment such as CRT and LCD Monitors, Computer cases and internal parts such as Motherboards, PCI cards, memory, processors, batteries, laptops and laptop batteries and any other part associated with computer equipment. We do not offer drop off recycling for Paper, Plastic, Glass, Metal or any other "non-electronic" product.

TOXIC COMPONENTS INSIDE COMPUTERS CONSIST OF:
* Lead and cadmium in computer circuit boards
* Lead oxide and barium in monitors' cathode ray tubes
* Mercury in switches and flat screens and
* Brominated flame retardants on printed circuit boards, cables and plastic
    casing.

As new products hit the market, relevant information and resources are necessary to ensure old items are properly discarded. So, next time you upgrade that cell phone, or get the latest video game system, think twice about what happens to the old gadget: Was there personal information on it that could be reaccessed? Even if you deleted the contacts...it can be reimaged and recreated with the proper technology.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH THE OLD STUFF?
First it would be best to make sure the data is removed completely and properly. (We can help with that!) Then you can either give it to a friend or family member that could benefit from a change. Old to you, is new to someone else. There are also organizations that collect old electronics and donate them to charity or recycle them accordingly. According to Dataquest, a market research firm, less than five percent of all personal computers that are disposed of are donated to schools, charities or nonprofit organizations. However, donations can be an easy, tax-friendly way to dispose of your obsolete electronics.

WHAT DOES CGRAFIKS DO WITH THE DONATED / RECYCLED EQUIPMENT?
First we make sure that your data is securely removed from the hard drive, and then we salvage and reuse what we can out of the system. Resell various parts as 'pulled' equipment, and then at the end of the year we donate the slower, obsolete donations to churches, daycares, or other needfull charities. We do our best to keep computers in circulation beacause even though it may be a slow, worthless computer to me and you... it is a new toy or tool for a small child or other unfortunate person. We will also give you a donation receipt showing the approximate value of your donation if requested.

HOW DO I GIVE MY EQUIPMENT TO CGRAFIKS?
There are several ways to get your donated or recyled equipment to CGrafiks. We offer Pickup within Crossville City Limits for $20 (additional charges may apply outside Crossville City Limits). You can Ship the packages to our Contact Info via UPS or FedEx (additional rates apply). You can also Drop-Off your equipment at the CGrafiks office for a Flat Fee of $5 per item.

GLASS, PLASTIC, PAPER, OTHER METAL? - WHERE DO I TAKE IT?
Your local Recycling Center will help you dispose of all your other safer waste. CGrafiks only takes your electronic devices to properly dispose of. This includes Computers, Radios, TV's, Monitors, and any other electronic device that carries a lithium battery or has capacitors or resistors. We do recycle our own waste, however do not run a recycling center! - CLICK TO FIND A RECYCLING CENTER NEAR YOU!

Finally ... WHEN YOU DO BUY - BUY GREEN!
With the ever changing and growing field of technology, companies make better devices that are more aware of their environmental impact. Research a product before you purchase it and support businesses that are doing their part. Green purchasing involves deciding what electronic devices to buy based on their impact on the environment. This could include the materials used to make these products or how much energy they use.

EPA Energy Star EPA ENERGY STAR
This program has information about ENERGY STAR labeled computers, monitors and printers, including criteria and lists of qualifying products:

RECYCLE YOUR PLASTIC!
Fourteen 20oz bottles yield enough fiberfill for a ski jacket

RECYCLE YOUR GLASS!
Before you toss a glass bottle into the trash, consider this. The energy savings from recycling one bottle will power a computer for 25 minutes.

RECYCLE YOUR PAPER!
Trees not only beautify our world, they help clean the air of carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas. Together we can make the world a greener place.

RECYCLE YOUR METAL!
Recycling one aluminum can saves the energy it takes to run a TV for 3 hours. By recycling 32,000 tons of aluminum you save enough energy to run 1 million TVs for 17 hours a day for an entire year! THIS IS NOT AS HARD AS IT SOUNDS - So tune in and start recycling!

TIPS

By recycling your old electronics, glass, paper, plastic and metal - it can be reusued to make other products. This in turn, helps to lower the extraction of new raw materials from the earth and minimizes resources required for processing, saving energy and reducing greenhouse gases.

HOW CAN I SAVE ENERGY?

* Use natural light from windows
* Install sky lights or solar panels
* Turn off your monitors when not using
* Reuse Plastic Cups
* Walk or Ride Bikes instead of Drive.
* Store in Digital format (USB / CD) instead of on paper
* Use real coffee cups instead of paper or styrofoam cups.
Keep a real cup at home, work, and in your car so you
   don't forget.
* Unplug your electronics when not using them. Even better:
Put them on a surge protector
for easy on and off access!

DID YOU KNOW?

The lead inside of the glass in monitors protects us from radiation that is given off by the computer monitor. This radiation can be harmful to us if the leaded screen was not there.

The cathode ray tubes (CRTs) -- or picture tubes -- found in color monitors and TVs leach, on average, more than four times the amount of lead the Environmental Protection Agency
defines as hazardous when they are crushed in landfills.

An average of 220 tons of e-waste is dumped in landfills and incinerators
every year in the US alone. These
toxic items constitute as much as
2-5% ofthe US municipal solid waste stream and continues to grow rapidly.

As much as 50 to 80 percent of US electronic waste collected for recycling
is sent to Asia.

A single computer or television monitor contains an average of 4 to 8 pounds of lead. Monitor glass contains about 20% lead by weight. When this glass is crushed in a landfill, the lead leaches
into the soil.

Just 1/70 of a teaspoon of mercury is enough to contaminate 20 acres of a lake, rendering the fish inedible.
